The slogan of the project: Sewing for all!

Retailored Chances 2024 recap

From 7 October to 3 November 2024, we will campaign with Adománytaxi to continue the Retailored Chances project. You can support the project on the Adjukössze! page, so that after Bátonyterenye we can meet in 4 more villages in 2025. On this page, you can see exactly how much we are fundraising for. This time we focus on upcycling and creativity, working with adult women. And the slogan of the project: sewing for all!

The project

The Retailored Chances project is one of Pinkponilo Creative Studio’s longest projects, which we started in 2019. The Retailored Chances project (Sorsfordító Szálak in Hungarian) originally aimed to provide young people in deprived rural villages with a profession while strengthening their creative skills. We have launched a series of sewing workshops to provide on-site training in fashion design, where all participants can learn the basics of the profession by making their own designer garments. We are also helping young designers and their collections to make their way into the world of fashion so that their destiny is not defined by where they were born but by the fact that they can become anything they want and dare to dream big.

During these workshops, the participants can learn how to use a sewing machine, make their own sewing patterns and designs, and bring all their ideas to life with some thread and fabric. The sewing machines that we use were all donated to us by lovely supporters who believe in our cause. Although some of these machines are older models they work perfectly fine and we can put them to good use.

Our goal with this project is to give these young people a new skill they can benefit from. Maybe they will choose sewing as a profession in the future or they will be able to make a side hustle out of this skill or they will be able to repair their own clothes and make clothes for themselves. It doesn't matter how much they take away from these workshops as long as they enjoy themselves and they dare to dream big. We want to give them new opportunities and not let their circumstances determine what they become when they grow up.

Partners

This project wouldn't be possible without our partner Adománytaxi (Charity Taxi). Adománytaxi is a multipronged initiative that combines elements of social care, community building, and social sensitization. By connecting the needs of the supporters and those supported, they are working toward a more cohesive and sustainable society. They help us raise funds for us to be able to keep this project running.

In terms of media, Mediator ad-agency brought the Retailored Chances media campaign to life. Our collaboration with Mediator earned us three awards throughout 2024.

Awards

Retailored Chances together with Mediator received a bronze medal in the “Diversity” category at the Hipnózis 2024 Awards Gala. Together we also received a Bronze Penge (Bronze Blade) award at Arany Penge (Golden Blade) awards which is a large award ceremony in Hungary for creative projects. Stevie International Business Awards awarded Retailored Chances and Mediator with a bronze award in the category of Communications or PR Campaign of the Year - Non-Profit / Charity.

All of these awards mean so much to us as they are proof that the importance of our project is recognized and supported by others. We are very grateful for these awards because they help our project become more well-known and help us reach as many people as possible.

Going forward

Our goal is to continue this project and bring our workshops to more rural villages. We want to give opportunities and skills to as many young and talented people as possible. To do this we will need your help as well. Donations are a key part of this project as they allow us to travel to these villages, buy materials for the workshops, provide food and beverages for the participants, and document these workshops so we can share them with the world. In exchange for bigger donations, we will send you a hoodie designed by the participants of this project as a thank-you for your support. Let's show the world together that where you were born doesn't determine what you become in the future. The Pinkponilo team is joined by 5 other volunteers who support the project with their sewing and fashion skills. The Adománytaxi team is campaigning for the future of the project as part of the Stronger Roots competition.
